Last week, local music teacher Mr. Jacob Maurer visited DMS. He captivated his young audience with interesting explanations about instruments, music, conducting, and more. He explained the parts of the bow. The long wooden part is called the "stick," the part that rubs over the strings is called the "hair," and the little part at the bottom (below with the white dot) is called the "frog." The frog is what one holds when using the bow.
He taught the children about duets, trios and quartets.
He explained some of the instructions of a conductor, showing the children the signals for playing softly and loudly. He also showed them the signals to start and to stop.
The children were enthralled with his presentation. If you would like Mr. Maurer's contact information, please let your child’s teacher know. We are happy to pass his information along!
